Pros: I love the colour, contrast and bokeh

Cons:

The lens hood mount is a niggling doubtable, I constitute mine to be a bit soft and at present the lens hood is a little difficult to put on and off.

Whether you shoot landscapes or people the 24LII is an astonishing lens. I love the color, contrast and bokeh of the lens. I've fifty-fifty played with it on a food and beverage shoot and it produced some interesting images.

Pros: Overall sharpness, excellent center sharpness wide open up, built and color rendition, bokeh.

Cons:

My version has somewhat unreliable AF when focusing more than about 10m away.

The image quality at F1.4 is so impressive on my re-create that despite having AF bug, I haven't returned my lens. This is because I'k concerned that I'll get a copy with groovy AF just with less image quality. The lens is tack sharp corner to corner at F1.4 at the minimum focusing distance. One caveat here is that yous need to be aware of the extremely thin depth of field at F1.4 combined with the minimum focusing distance. I quite oft using live view and transmission focusing with 10x zoom on to blast it. The poorest performance is when shooting at infinity (i.e sky, landscape etc.) at F1.4. Generally the corner sharpness drops a fair bit but I never actually find myself needing to practice this then it doesn't bother me a cracking deal.

Pros: Sharpness, IQ,

Cons:

none i can think of, mayhap price just worth the cost

I merely honey this lens, I recall I'g addicted to it! Information technology makes magic happen when y'all shot with information technology.

It has a slight vignetting wide open that I really love, and the bokeh, oh the bokeh!
Focuses fast and accurate.
Colors and contrast render just slap-up, non to mention that if combined with a expert body you can shot paw held on the moonlight, how corking is that?

Built like a tank (even if the safe ring on mine was damages after ii years of use, and I'm really careful handling it), information technology's heavy, merely I really like that.

Recommended!

hood

I bought this lens for a lot less than other used versions considering of a small scrape on the lesser of the filter ring. The lens is very nice the size balances well on the camera. It's abrupt and resolves well on the full frame sensor. My only real complaint is the hood.

Pros: Resolves well beyond the frame. Atmospheric condition sealing. Solid build. Fast Authentic AF. Very skillful flare resistance. f/1.4

Cons:

Poor hood design. Heavy. Large. Expensive.

I'll start with my negatives. The hood doesn't snap on securely and it can rotate when you are carrying the camera on a strap so that when you go to take a shot you may need to adjust the hood. This is rare but it has happened to me. As well the round shape of the hood means that you tin't set up the lens down on the hood when irresolute lenses which I ever practise with my other lenses. As for the heavy, large and expensive points; well they but come with the territory and are not faults of the lens only they are something to consider as "down sides".

As for the expert points.well Information technology's a long list so I'll just but say that this is i of my well-nigh treasured lenses and I would not want to go without it! When I'm shooting a wedding it is on one of my bodies at all times. It is sharper at f/1.4 than my sigma 50mm and (dissimilar the sigma fifty) it actually focuses accurately in depression light when I really need it. It does vignette heavy at ane.4 but otherwise looks quite good for a lens that is broad open! I notice I actually like how it looks at f/2 and upward. If I am in a situation where I need a wide angle lens that I can count on to get the shot this is the i I reach for. I've shot musicians on stage that were jumping effectually in horrible light besides as dancing at wedding receptions with bad light and lot's of fast dancing so I fix my remote speedlites and with this lens on my 5D MKIII and servo AF it just nails it!!

For Photojournalism and ecology portraits it's a cracking lens IMHO

Pros: Overall sharpness, excellent center sharpness wide open, built and color rendition, bokeh.

Cons:

Price, sensitive AF

One of my nearly oft used lenses. Love color rendition and bokeh, not to speak about existence congenital like a tank. gets lots of landscape and interior (interviews) work done under difficult environmental condition. Had one, sold it to try the smaller 24mm IS, merely wasn't convinced. Tried also the Zeiss 25mm f2.0, which, although an excellent lens, lacks weather sealing. Just bought a 24 1.four once again.

Pros: Stunning image quality right to the edge, wide open in virtually situations. Minimal baloney.

Cons:

My version has somewhat unreliable AF when focusing more about 10m away.

Overall

Allow me outset by saying that, although I take some reservations nearly the AF system in this lens, I retrieve the lens produces stunning images that really "pop out" and catch the viewer. The performance at F1.four is extremely impressive on my copy. The only exception to this is when focusing at infinity the corners are a bit soft. Vignetting is quite strong at F1.4 but I quite like this upshot and it can be compensated out with the DPP software if I don't desire it for a paticular shot. Anway, don't have my word - estimate for yourself. Here's a bunch of my photos taken with the 24mm F1.4L Mk Ii lens on a 5D Mk Three camera:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/michael_elford/sets/72157635747950975/

Epitome Quality

The image quality at F1.iv is so impressive on my copy that despite having AF issues, I oasis't returned my lens. This is because I'm concerned that I'll get a copy with neat AF but with less prototype quality. The lens is tack precipitous corner to corner at F1.4 at the minimum focusing distance. One caveat hither is that you need to be enlightened of the extremely thin depth of field at F1.4 combined with the minimum focusing distance. I quite frequently using live view and manual focusing with 10x zoom on to nail information technology. The poorest functioning is when shooting at infinity (i.e heaven, landscape etc.) at F1.4. Mostly the corner sharpness drops a fair bit just I never really find myself needing to do this then it doesn't carp me a great bargain.

AF Issues

OK. And so many people are going to be thinking that I don't know what I'm doing at F1.four and that's why I think at that place are focusing issues. Let me dispell that myth by stating that I likewise own a 35mm F1.4L and an 85mm F1.2L Mk 2, neither of which I consider to accept any AF issues whatsoever. Sadly though, with the 24mm I do. The AF on this lens (my copy at least) is very inconsistent when shooting from nigh 10m to infinity. I tend not to trust the AF at all and find myself using alive view a lot. The lens has fifty-fifty misfocused a shot at F8 (focusing in the distance). I live in hope that this problem tin 1 24-hour interval be solved with a firmware update to the lens. In the concurrently I consider information technology an badgerer but one that I'm willing to live with given the stunning combination of wide and shallow focus that this lens gives me.

Practice I recommend this lens? Yes, if you are wanting that combination of wide and shallow then there are not tool many tools that volition requite you lot than unique look. Go for it just be aware that you might be having AF issues like so many others that take reported information technology.

Pros: Sharp, beautiful bokeh, fast and authentic AF, weather-sealing, fantabulous build, beautiful colors.

Cons:

None, (If I had to pick ane, toll for a new 1)

This lens is incredible. The build quality is amazing. The images from this lens are sharp at every aperture. The colors are keen, and the bokeh is wonderful. Very fast, repose and accurate AF.

This lens as well works quite well on a crop camera (becomes about a 35mm) and works wonderfully for video utilise as well.

No complaints about this lens.

Noting

Amazing lens. When I compare this with the new 24-lxx 2.8L II, this lens is almost the same (color and sharpness), but the bokeh is more than cute of the 24 1.four II. Almost all the broad-ange pictures of http://www.totaalfotografie.nl are fabricated with the 24 1.4L Two

Pros: abrupt at more than than f/2, not so heavy, well build

Cons:

soft corners at f/1.4, very ugly bokeh, expensive, vignetting

Very ugly bokeh for me, I purchase this lens considering i want a wide bending lens with the benefits of low low-cal and bokeh too. Merely it's unusable at f/one.four - f/2. Corners are as well soft, vignetting extremly.

I sold this lens, I will become for another prime number lens similar the 50L.

Thanks.

Pros: sharp corner to corner, beautiful epitome quality

Cons:

too expensive for what you get

wish this lens was a little cheaper, but at to the lowest degree information technology's less costly than the nikon version. my 35L was my daily driver for weddings until i got this... kinda got sick of shooting in cramped reception venues and this opened the earth up just a piddling bit more. but that extra 11mm was huge, and i fell in dearest with the focal length. very flare resistant, pretty quick to focus, super sharp. admittedly beautiful lens.

Pros: Construction, weatherproof, fast, supersharp (stopped down to f4)

Cons:

Price, needs carefull utilize for accurate focussing, needs camera with MA

The build of this lens is actually impressive! Used stopped down to f4.0 or f 5.6 information technology is supersharp!
But the downside is that one really needs to know how to use this lens. Beginning of all I discovered that it needs a +10 MA on my EOS 5DmkII.

Don't expect this lens to be sharp from corner to corner at f 1.4 (which broad bending lens is this anyway?)
With your chief subject towards the borders of the paradigm information technology is stil possible to go expert results at f1.four provided that proper focussing techniques are used. Don't look the rest of the picture to be sharp because every bit with all fast lenses at f i.4 the DOF is very sparse.
Pay special attention to the background because in that location is a lot more to "see" in the frame compared to shooting with a tele lens so information technology can be a real claiming to become a pleasing background.
This lens is meant for creative solutions, people who expect they will get sharp pictures from corner to corner at f one.4 , shooting common subjects, volition be disappointed. In that case I would advice them to creepo up the iso and stop down the lens.

I can imagine that some people who paid 1,400.- for this lens volition be disappointed if they do non fully sympathise the "nature" of this lens.

Pros: Fast aperture

Cons:

very very soft in the corners wide open

I bought information technology some time ago for it's ability to shoot at f1.4, later all that's why you pay the money.
If you need anything most sharp in the corners at f1.4 it will be a disappointment. I don't expect center sharpness in the corners but this is fashion off the mark and and then was another one I tried.
If your thought of using f1.4 is to throw the background out of focus and your subject field is central, no doubt you will think this lens a great performer. If like me you need the lens speed for low light work, I call back Catechism should of washed much better, Information technology needs about f3.5 to start getting acceptable in the corners.. The 35mm f1.four is a amend bet if 35mm tin can be made to embrace your discipline.

Pros: Everything (sharpness, bokeh, colors, build, flare command, f/one.four)

Cons:

Needs a filter become be fully weather sealed

There is nothing I could add together that hasn't been said earlier.

Its an astonishing lens. Very sharp in the center broad open
almost unreal at smaller apertures throughout the frame.
Not as precipitous as the 24mm TS-Eastward Two unshifted but very very
close. I don't hesitate to shoot this lens wide open, although
you can get a flake more dial (contrast) past stopping down to f2.

The lens likewise handles flares gracefully even when shooting
direct into the sun. Information technology feels prissy and compact and renders
colors and blurred backgrounds very lovely. Some LoCAs can
be seen in wide open shots but that had to be expected.

Did you ever try to zoom into one of your new lens examination shots
not realizing they were already showing at 100% on your screen?

This is one of those lenses...

Pros: Very abrupt wide open, neutral colour rendition, excellent build quality, infrequent sharpness @4-five.6

Cons:

AF see review body

Many years ago I bought a 35L for my 20d because I was fed upwards with soft corners I was getting on the Fifty and consumer zooms.
I loved the 35 but I was finding it only a little long on the 20d.
Reluctantly I sold and purchased a MK1 24L, after a few months I started to realise that there was literally nothin I could exercise to become critically sharp corners from seemingly any aperture.
Sold it and purchased one of the original 21mm distagons (contax) version.
Needless to say finally sharp corners!
I've een happy with this for several years but i started to miss the employ of AF and metering that works properly.

Then I have the MKII of the 24L and all I can now say is thankyou distagon you have been astonishing but its fourth dimension for you to effort a new home.
I notice the sharpness of the 24mm wide open fractionally softer in centre (not extreme corners) than the distagon.
At aforementioned aperture the 24mm is unrivalled.

Comparing sharpness to other Fifty lenses I've used I would say from f4-5.half-dozen the 24mm MKII is entirely in it'south own category.
The lenses I accept had or still have are

17-40mml
24mm MKI
24mm MKII
35mm L
85mm MKI
85mm MKII
180mm Fifty
300mm f4 L IS
300mm f2.8 L IS
400mm f5.6L IS
70-300mm L IS

build quality is v 5 five good! Not exceptional like the 400mm f5.six but still splendid.

The colour I find far more neutral and natural than alot of the L's
Kinda like the difference of Fuji provia vs Velvia for those who call up the good former days!

All in all merely a perfect lens.

The simply trouble is the AF
I don't take a 7d (have 40d) so I accept no micro AF aligning.
Only to be honest I have to concord with others; this isn't forepart or back focussing, it'south just wildly unpredictable.
The Merely reason I chose not to let this influence me was because I was here coming from a manual focus zeiss so I'll but use manual when AF starts being naughty.

All in all I recommend this. As a pure optic it'due south the finest I have e'er used from any manufacturer at any focal length.

Can't expect to actually start using information technology!
